Library is on Monday, as normal this week

Word Work – Our regular word sort Show What You Know (SWYK) will be on Tuesday.

Bible Memory – He healed all who were sick. This happened so that what Isaiah the prophet had said would come true. He had said, “He suffered the things we should have suffered. He took on himself the sicknesses that should have been ours.” – Matthew 8:16b-17 Due February 14

Our Learning Journey

Bible:

In Bible we continued to learn about Jesus’ early ministry. Our discussion about God’s new rules was based on the Sermon on the Mount. We learned that we do not need to worry because God will provide for our needs.

Literacy:

Reading:

This past week, we continued to practice reading strategies to help difficult words (stretch and re-read, flip the sound) as well as deepen understanding of a text (make connections with a text, ask questions while reading). Students practiced skills in a whole class format as well as in small groups led by a teacher.

Writing

We are focusing on punctuation and capitalization. This week we looked for errors in sentences and practiced fixing them.

Math:

Last week, students practiced skip counting by 5 from multiples of 5 as well as from non-standard numbers. Students also learned to identify errors in the skip counting by 5 pattern. We finished the week practicing the skip counting by two and exploring odd and even numbers.

Social Studies:

Last week, students finished editing and revising their region letter and this week they will begin the process of writing their good copy. Students will also have an opportunity to self-evaluate their work.

Science:

On Thursday, students were introduced to our science unit on Water. This week, we will be ‘diving’ deeper into this unit.
