Dear Parents,

A significant component of the new BC curriculum focuses on Core Compentencies. Core competencies are sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all students need to develop in order to engage in deep learning and life-long learning. Three core compentencies were identified:

– Communication

– Thinking

– Personal and Social

To learn more about these core compentencies, please see https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/competencies

While we have addressed all the competencies throughout the year, the Grade Two classes have focused on the thinking and communicating aspects of your child’s development, specifically in the area of Science.

Students in 2CH recognize that trying new things and listening are important components of learning and working with peers. Accepting new ideas can be very different from agreeing and students had to navigate this understanding by making choices to share their own ideas respectfully, try new ways of doing things and/or wait and be patient.

Today, you child will bring home their self-assessment. Please read it over and discuss with your child their learning. They have interesting insights into their progress in this area.

If you have any questions about this self- assessment, please feel free to speak to me.

Ms. Betty Chan
