Olivia, an RCS senior, graciously shares her experience with the Delta Police Academy in the interview below.

  1. How did you hear about the Delta Police Academy? A constable I know from Church had recommended this program to me!
  2.  What did you do during your time with the Delta Police Academy? Our main objective was to see how we could overcome hurdles in stressful situations. Thus, we went through excruciating physical tests like [the] POPAT – TWU ropes course – Firearms – Self-defense…[T]o accomplish the physicals, we needed to first conquer our mental hurdles; we ingrained a mindset that if one fails because the task is difficult, then we all fail because we are a team.
  3. Has attending the academy influenced your thoughts and plans for what to do after high school?  If so, how?Yes! Everything policing has taught me, has helped me grow as a student, a leader, and a Christian. My experience was eye-opening, and I realized the…police have been so courageous, and helpful to our community. I am now determined to go into law enforcement with either RCMP or DPD and pursue a degree and study at JIBC.
  4. Where can a student learn more about the Police Academy?  The program was specifically found on the Delta Police website, and admissions open early spring.

Curious about policing as a career? The Richmond RCMP Youth Academy is offering a 5 day camp where you can gain some first hand experience and receive opportunities to learn more about what it takes to be a police officer!
