Up Up and Away!

Last week, we launched our core competencies learning with a fun, hands-on, “STEM” (Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics) activity called Save Sam!

This week, we will continue developing and refining our proficiency in the 3 core competencies, with a focus on Communication. We are all looking forward to our next core competency “focus” event which is our visit to Terra Nova Park this Thursday.

Memory Verse: Isaiah 40:31

After chapel on Friday, students reflected on our chapel theme verse this year, and had an opportunity to review it and think deeper about what that verse means to them. Together, we created actions to go with the verse and will be continuing to practice and unpack it this week. Memory verse reciting will happen next Friday.

All About My Child forms / Volunteering this year

It came to my attention on Friday that some of you have not received the “All About My Child” forms I sent home in the first week. Not to worry. I’ve attached them here. If you could please fill them out and return them ASAP, it will help organize classroom volunteers this year and help me prepare for Parent-Teacher Conferences in October.

Spelling starts tomorrow!

My apologies for any confusion last week. I decided to postpone our Spelling routine to this week to give everyone one more week to settle into our daily classroom routines before launching Spelling.

This week, we will gradually teach the different expectations and components of our spelling program. You can expect spelling sentences for homework assigned on Monday, as well as a home review page for homework assigned on Tuesday. A practice spelling test is planned for this Friday.

Please be aware: the whole class will practice the spelling routine using the same word list and concept for 1-2 weeks, after which the program becomes more customized to each child’s spelling related needs.

Thank you for all the extra tissue paper you brought in! We are feeling well supplied.  I hope you are finding your way around this site, as it comes together slowly. We have some video footage coming soon on our “Sights and Sounds of 3A” page from the Save Sam Challenge and Math class! Feel free to check those out if you’re looking for more insight into what goes on behind our classroom doors.
