This Friday, the elementary campus students will be having a Family Group activity. Students will be going to their family groups to meet their teacher, participate in an activity, and learn about clubs for this year. We will not be meeting in the large gym for worship this week, as we have in the past.
Tomorrow afternoon, the carpet in our classroom will be replaced. The students will have French, P.E. and Music in various spaces around the school and they will not be permitted to enter the classroom once the carpet work begins. The children will wear their outside shoes after lunch and pack their backpacks before they go off to their specialty classes. Backpacks and jackets will be stored in the lobby by the office. For tomorrow only, please pick up your child in front of the office, rather than using our classroom’s outside door. Students will still be allowed to meet you at a sibling’s classroom or at the library, if that is your usual arrangement.
Today we began talking in depth about our memory verse. We are focusing on the idea of a “great cloud of witnesses”. We brainstormed a list of people in the Bible who showed faith and trusted God. Your child should ask you to help think of more faithful Biblical people. Please read through Hebrews 11 with your child and make record the people listed there. Send your list to school on Friday.
Next week, we will talk about who the “cloud of witnesses” in our own lives are.
We will begin our memory verse program this week. Our memory verse program emphasizes meditation and meaning, rather than simply memorizing the words. The first memory verse of Grade Two was assigned today. There is also a copy of it in your child’s agenda. Students will be quizzed on this verse in four weeks on Friday, October 13. Please practice this verse everyday with your child.
This is the theme verse for this school year and since the students have four weeks to commit it to memory, we will be digging deeper into what this verse means during class time, but feel free to explore this passage with your child at home, too.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, l
et us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Home reading continues this week. Please encourage your child to read for a minimum of 15 minutes each night and record the title of the book and number of minutes read in their log at the back of the agenda.
Welcome to our first full week of the 2017-2018 school year and we are working hard at learning the new routines of Grade 2. Here are important notes and dates for this week.
Meet the teacher evening
Tomorrow night (Tuesday, September 12) will be Meet the Teacher evening. It will begin at 7:00pm in the large gym. This event is for parents only, so please arrange childcare for your children. Look forward to seeing you there!
Individual student photos will be taken on Wednesday, September 13. Our class has P.E. and the students will be required to wear their red RCS P.E. t-shirt. If you wish for your child to wear something different for their picture, please send along the clothes and they can change into their photo clothes. Remember to bring a smile!
I sent a parent questionnaire last week to all families via email. If you did not receive it, you can find the link to the pdf here. Grade 2 parent questionnaire
Please complete the questionnaire, print it out, and return it to school by Wednesday, September 13. Your responses to the questions will help me to get to know your child better and assist me as I support your child at school. Thank you very much!
Another school year has begun and I am looking forward to getting to know your child and your family!
This blog will be where I will post up-to-date information about news, reminders, and notices. I will also put up photos of field trips and school events here so that you can be informed about what is happening at RCS and in 2Y.
