We had a wonderful first week of school! It was a week of meeting old friends and making new ones. We played some games, chatted about some of our favourite things in order to get to know one another better, read lots of books and practiced routines. The students were very excited to explore all the new toys!
We will have our first Library class on Tuesday with Ms. Huber. In order to protect our library books, please have your child bring a bag labeled with his/her name and class. We will be using this library bag throughout the school year every Tuesday when we go to exchange books. If students do not have a library bag, they will not be able to take out books.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be discussing and practicing what to do in case of a fire or earthquake at school. Your child may have some questions or feel anxious about these drills when they come home. It is a great opportunity for you to share what your home plan is in case of a fire or earthquake and to reassure them that these practices are important so that everyone knows what to do and can stay safe. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Below is a song we sang together this week if you want to listen to it at home!
- Thursday is our “Grade 1 Meet the Teacher Night”. Please note that this is a parent only evening.
- Wednesday, September 18th is picture day. Please help your child dress accordingly.
- Please make sure your child has indoor shoes (shoes that they can run in during gym)
- Please send in extra clothes in a shoe box with your child’s name on it that can stay at school
- Please return the emergency release form
- Please send headphones to be kept at school for use in the computer lab
- Please send students with a water bottle (filled with water) each day.
Have a great weekend!
Message from office:
There are so many great reasons to sign up and be paid to be at RCS. This year we have switched when we need Parent Volunteers to ONLY be at Morning Recess.
Why is that so great? It is great because Parent Supervisors have less students at one time to supervise because we have two 15-minute morning recesses. The first recess from 10:30-10:45 and has the Kindergarten to Grade 3. The second recess has only the Grade 4’s and 5’s. Our deep hope is students and supervisors will have greater success during these distinct playtimes. What a great way to be connected, help the school and get some Starbuck’s money on the side.
We are looking for at least 15 parents who speak English and can commit from September to June for at least one time per week during the 10:15-11:15 time period. Currently we have our busy and over committed teachers covering the morning recess supervision in addition to their before, after school and lunch supervisions. Please email at email@example.com or call the Elementary Office to sign up and become involved as a Parent Recess supervisor.
