Dear RCS parents and students,

Welcome to another school year at RCS! I am excited to teach my fourth year of French here. I have been busy with a newborn at home (born June 28, 2013).

I will be teaching the following classes: all classes from Grades 1-3, 4S, 4E, and all three grade 5 classes.

A note to new parents,

I will be starting an after-school club on Mondays for all new students beginning in January, 2014. The club will follow the RCS club schedule. Students register by having parents sending me an email to request a spot on the list. We will have our club in the 1Y classroom on Mondays from 3:00-3:35PM. You do NOT need to sign up with the office or through signupgenius.

All of our classes are taught in French. Please be assured that your child will NOT be assessed the same as the other students, who have had French since grade one. Your child will be caught up if s/he is willing to diligently work at school and at home. Our new students last year have had lots of success catching up.

DVDs: Student DVDs are here! We have a large supply of DVDs available for purchase at the office.

Please don’t hesitate to email me at slai@richmondchristian.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

The password for the Downloads section remains the same as before. Ask other parents or email me a request for it.

We have lots of fun in class! I hope your child will enjoy another year learninng French.

Mr. Lai

The following is a letter from Mrs. Koepke, our music teacher:

Dear Grade 4 Parents,

As part of the Grade 4 Music curriculum, your child will be introduced to recorder playing.  Your child has received a labeled recorder and a numbered copy of “Rockin’ Recorder”, a book for home practice use.  The “Rockin’ Recorder” book is to remain at home for the duration of the school year and will be collected in June.  Students are required to bring their recorder to each music class unless otherwise specified.  If recorders are lost, I have a limited supply for purchase.

Throughout the school year I will be assessing your child’s progress through our Recorder Karate program.  Your child has an opportunity to earn eight coloured “belts” upon achieving various levels of play.  Although I will not be requiring a signed practice record, I am encouraging the students to practice the pieces in the Rockin’ Recorder book on a consistent basis.  Ten minutes of practice per school day will solidify the skills we are learning in class.  Students interested in more advanced repertoire will have the opportunity to participate in ensemble work, and explore the other members of the Recorder family.

Thank you for supporting your child in their music-making!  Feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.
