Looking for Socks

Posted by pepp | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on September 22, 2014

Have your children grown out of socks? Does your washing machine eat up socks and you can’t find the pair? Do you have socks that have lost their mate? We can use them at school! If you have spare socks, mismatched socks, or lonely socks, send them to 4E and we will use them as erasers for whiteboard activities. I will collect them all year. Thanks so much!

Photography Begins on Tuesday!

This term in Art, we will be learning many elements of composition and design through PHOTOGRAPHY.

Each Tuesday afternoon for the next 4-6 weeks, we will learn and practice 1 new composition technique.  In order to fully participate in these art classes, students will need to bring a digital camera (batteries pre-charged & memory cards inserted) each Monday.

We will learn photography basics, such as:

– photography etiquette

– camera care

– basic camera features & functions

We will study & apply the following composition techniques:

– Super Simple

– Leading Lines

– Fabulous Frames

– Powerful Patterns

– Fill the Frame

– Vary the Point of View

Parents, could you help your child download their images into a folder with their name on it?  They should keep their best photos and delete the rest.  They will need to create at least two excellent photos to illustrate each of the 6 composition tips.

Thank you for helping us learn this exciting new skill this year!

September 26 – Terry Fox Run and Hero Dress-Up Day

Posted by pepp | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on September 17, 2014

Friday, September 26 is special for TWO reasons:

1)  RCS will be participating in the TERRY FOX RUN to raise money for cancer research.  Help support Terry’s dream to cure cancer by bringing any spare change.  Every loonie, toonie, quarter, dime & nickel will help.  The grade fours will run 2 laps around the field.  Parents are encouraged to join us Friday, Sept. 26 after chapel to cheer everyone on.

2)  Friday is also HERO DRESS-UP DAY!  Come to school as your favourite Bible hero, super hero, or community hero.  You may wish to dress up as our Canadian hero, Terry Fox.  You could even invent your own super hero.  I look forward to seeing your costumes!

Parent helpers & students need to bring:

– a snack, bag lunch, & water bottle

– a camera (optional; with parent permission)

– a small backpack to carry everything

– sturdy walking shoes (runners or boots)…WARNING:  the trails can be muddy this time of year

– weather-appropriate clothing (dress in layers so you can adjust to heat or cold)

We look forward to a wonderful day together, enjoying God’s creation!
