French Auctions for Grades 4 and 5

French with the grades 4 and 5 students has been a very fun and productive time so far this term!

Once a year, I will be asking each child to bring a prize (about $3-5 value) for our auctions (“ventes aux enchères”).

Items from home are welcome as well as prizes.

Volunteers have been chosen already for the first auction for both Grade 4 and 5.

Examples of prizes include toys, stationary, stickers, books, candy, souvenirs, etc. The prizes are greatly appreciated by Monsieur Lai and all the students. Students earn euros throughout the year to spend at the auctions, held every two to three months.

Also, the number of euros each student receives is also recorded for marks. They can receive euros in the following ways:

  • Doing well on quizzes/tests/homework
  • helping the teacher/friends, and
  • answering questions in class.

I appreciate your help with these. I will bring some prizes myself to each class as well. If you have any questions, please email me.

***Auctions will occur during in the months of:

1. Friday, November 8

2. End of February

3. April

4. June (end of the year)

Dear Grade 1-5 Parents,

Thank you for reading the French at RCS blog! Please subscribe to it by adding your email in the box. You will be notified via email when I publish a new post.

If your child has entered Middle School, feel free to unsubscribe (there will be an option in the emails).

HOME REVIEW: 2 METHODS

All students should aim for around 15 minutes (at least) per week of at home review. Grade 5 students will be averaging more than 15 minutes, with occasional written homework (unfinished work from class time).

  1. QUIZLET

Quizlet has been an amazing tool for home review. Here are the new Quizlet classes for home review of vocabulary words. I have reset all the class members from previous years. Last years classes are no longer valid. These are automatic links. Please join the class that your children are enrolled in this year. Sets/Material will be added throughout the year. They will contain French and English meanings of all words that we learn. If you haven’t signed up for Quizlet yet, please register for an account at quizlet.com. You can also download the app (free) for your iOS device here. Tell your child the screen name so that they can relay that info to me. Here is a post on how to remove last years classes.

HERE is the link to the new 2019-2020 quizlet classes.

You may print each list of words at your own leisure. Grade 4s and 5s will receive printed lists in class.

    2. FRENCH AIM ONLINE PORTAL

https://class.aimlanguagelearning.com/account

Your child will have the same username and password for accessing the  French ONLINE portal as last year. For MOST students, it will be the same login and password as AR. The new portal will be available in TWO WEEKS. Grade one students will be given their usernames and passwords soon.

It is important to not go ahead of the assigned section.

Please don’t hesitate to email me with any questions: slai@myrcs.ca

I look forward to another year of languages with your child!

Mr. Lai
