Where you can find out what's happening in Grade 2

The Week of September 25th

Library

Library is on Monday. Please make sure your child brings their library bag. Your child needs to return their previous weeks books on Monday.

Bible Memory Verse

We have been discussing the verse as a class.  Please take the time to discuss and practice the verse with your child.

We are focusing on the idea of a “great cloud of witnesses”. We brainstormed a list of people in the Bible who showed faith and trusted God. Discuss with your child more faithful people found in the Bible. If you like you could read Hebrews 11 together.

The verse is on a pink sheet at the back of their agenda. Here is our verse:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Hebrews 12: 1

The verse will be recited on October 13th, 2017.

Home Reading

The students are doing a great job of reading in class. Please make sure that your child is doing at least 15 minutes of reading at home each day. Also please help your child record the book title and amount of time into their Home Reading Log.

Parent Volunteers

For parents who were interested in listening to 2H students read out loud, I have put up a calendar outside our classroom for parents to sign up. There was a large intrest in reading with the students so I figured a calendar would work best. The calendars that are up are for now until the end of November. If you can spare 20-30 minutes in the morning (8:20-8:45am) to listen to children, read, please sign your name under the dates you’re available. You can sign up for as many or as few dates as you’d like. Hopefully, there will be someone to listen to reading everyday. Some parents have already signed up which is great. I could have two people per day if you like a day that already has one person.

We will be starting this read out loud activity on Monday, September 25th. You will need to have a completed criminal records check before you can volunteer with the students. If you completed it last year then it is still current and you do not need to do it again this year.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

The Week of September 18th

Library

Library is on Monday. Please make sure your child brings their library bag. If they do not wish to return their book yet that is fine; they just won’t be able to take new books out.

Bible Memory Verse

We will be starting our Bible Memory Verse program this week. The first verse is longer so the students will have a few weeks to learn it. Please take the time to discuss and practice the verse with your child. Your child will glue the verse into their agenda on Monday. The verse will be on a pink sheet at the back of their agenda. Here is our verse:

The Week of September 11th

Welcome to our first full week of the 2017-2018 school year. We are working hard at learning the new routines of Grade 2. Here are important notes and dates for this week.

Meet the teacher evening

Tomorrow night (Tuesday, September 12) will be Meet the Teacher evening. It will begin at 7:00pm in the large gym. This event is for parents only, so please arrange childcare for your children. I look forward to seeing you there!

Photo day

Individual student photos will be taken on Wednesday, September 13. Our class has P.E. and the students will be required to wear their red RCS P.E. t-shirt. If you wish for your child to wear something different for their picture, please send along the clothes and they can change into their photo clothes. Remember to bring a smile!

Parent questionnaire

I sent a parent questionnaire last week to all families via email. If you did not receive it, you can find the link to the pdf here. Grade 2 parent questionnaire

Please complete the questionnaire, print it out, and return it to school by Wednesday, September 13. Your responses to the questions will help me to get to know your child better and assist me as I support your child at school. Thank you very much!
