I’m very proud and excited to invite you all to celebrate the hard work that’s taken place in our class over the last month. We will be holding our Cardboard Carnival(s) during the last week of February. Here are some dates you can look forward to:
Wednesday, February 26th: Trial Carnival at 2:00pm
-4L students and parents will get to test out other classmates’ games.
Friday, February 28th – Carnival for Grade 1’s from 1:15pm – 2:30pm
-Grade 4 student will be running a carnival for Grade 1 classes.
*Parent volunteers are needed to run the prize booth.*
To make our celebration enjoyable for the grade 1’s, students are encouraged (but not required) to bring some prizes to contribute to the carnival. Some items they can bring are:
gently used toys (for example: Happy Meal toys, stuffies, trinkets)
old books (near grade 1 reading level)
Each game booth will be given tickets to pass out to grade 1 students. Students can use their tickets to redeem prizes at the prize booth.
We will be collecting donations this coming week. Your generosity is greatly appreciated! Also, if you would like to volunteer to help during the Grade 1 Carnival on Friday, Feb 28th, please let me know.
Sorry about the very late blog post. 4L will be presenting their chapel this coming Friday. Please arrive to school earlier (8:15) and come directly to our class door. I’ll open up so we can have our props and costumes all prepared.
This Friday is Pajama Day! Your child is invited to wear pajamas to school and bring a small stuffy. During Family Groups this Friday morning, the students will be reading with a buddy. They are welcome to bring a favourite book from home, labelled with their first and last name. There will be no chapel in the gym this Friday.
Here are few announcements to draw your attention to:
Maritime Museum Field Trip:
4L will be going to the Maritime Museum in Vancouver on Monday, Dec 9th to learn about arctic exploration. We still require 2 more adult chaperones for the field trip. If you are willing and available to join us from 9am to 1pm, please let me know.
Carolling at Aberdeen:
We will be carolling at Aberdeen Centre on Thursday, Dec 12th, between 1:30 – 2:30. Please feel free to join us and enjoy the festivities.
We will be having a class party on the last day of school (Friday, Dec 13th). Students are asked to bring something (snacks, drinks, paper cups, entrees, and veggies) to share. Please confirm with your child by writing your dish/contribution into your child’s planner.
Thanks for your attention. I look forward to an awesome week before the holidays!
I’ve had a lovely time with you all the last few weeks. I’ve especially enjoyed discussing ideas about how to be a peacemaker in our War and Peace Perspectives Unit as well as talking about how to be a better caretaker of creation. Here are some of our highlights in photo form:
Remembrance Day Street Sign Scavenger Hunt
Mr. Lam Cloud & Mr. Lam
We started a plastic garbage tracker.
Hanging out with our kindergarten buddies
We read the story, “The Enemy” by Davide Cali, in which a soldier stubbornly fights a war because of false beliefs he has been taught by his general and war manual.
We were challenged to reflect on false beliefs we often hold towards people we don’t like.
False beliefs can be corrected if we choose to see others with grace.
We had two STEM Keva Planks challenges
Challenge 1: Balancing as many planks over the edge of a table. I think the class record is in the 30’s.
Challenge 2: Stacking as many planks on top of one plank standing up.
