Two Announcements

Hi Parents,

Here are two announcements sent by the school for your information:

1. Deeper Learning Parent Night

We hope that you will join us on Thursday, November 7th at 7:00pm for our Elementary Deeper Learning Parent Night. This will be an important evening of learning and information that we encourage parents to attend.

We kindly request that you use this link to RSVP. We want to ensure that we have prepared sufficient materials for those in attendance.

Please note that there will be no childcare provided and that the evening is not suitable for children.

If you would like more information about the evening, you can watch this video.

We hope to see you there!

2. Remembrance Day Poppies

This Friday, Chapel will be focusing on Remembrance Day. Each student will be given the opportunity to wear a poppy. These poppies are from the Royal Canadian Legion and a small donation is encouraged for the Legion that supplied RCS with these poppies. We encourage you to talk with your child about Remembrance Day and its significance. If you desire, please have your child bring a small coin donation for the poppies that they will be receiving on Friday. We look forward to supporting those that have sacrificed in a meaningful manner for our freedoms as we honour our veterans.

Please visit this page for more information: https://www.legion.ca/remembrance

Blessings,

Mr. Lam

Book Fair

Hello parents,

This is a message from the library.

Next week is our school book fair! Here are some important things you need to know:

  • AR will be closed after school next week. AR classes will continue as normal during the school day.
  • The library will be open for book exchange on Monday, Thursday and Friday as per usual (no book exchange on Wednesday)
  • Please see the latest Thrive newsletter or posters around the school for the book fair hours.

Thank you!

Week In Review: Oct 14-18, 2019

Hello parents,

Here are a few snapshots of the “happenings” in the 4L classroom.

In math, we started a new unit on Adding and Subtracting. The group here is playing a game of Addition War.

We also did another Book Share, where we wrote reviews for notable books we’ve read in the last while. For our grade-wide AR goal, we are almost half-way to our goal of 1000 points with around 420 points already! Keep on reading, 4L!

Here are a few book recommendations from some students:

We finished and displayed our Coast Salish Art. In this picture, some students are doing a self-assessment on their art project.

Finally, a group of students have been working on a marble track during break times. Here is a short video of their work. Marble Track

Have a restful weekend. See you all on Monday!

Announcements

Hi Parents,

I have a few important messages to pass along your way.

  1. Recess Parent Supervisors Needed:

There are so many great reasons to sign up and be paid to be at RCS. This year we have switched when we need Parent Volunteers to ONLY be at Morning Recess. Why is that so great? It is great because Parent Supervisors have less students at one time to supervise because we have two 15-minute morning recesses. The first recess from 10:30-10:45 and has the Kindergarten to Grade 3. The second recess has only the Grade 4’s and 5’s. Our deep hope is students and supervisors will have greater success during these distinct playtimes. What a great way to be connected, help the school and get some Starbuck’s money on the side.

We are looking for at least 15 parents who speak English and can commit from September to June for at least one time per week during the 10:15-11:15 time period. Currently we have our busy and over committed teachers covering the morning recess supervision in addition to their before, after school and lunch supervisions.  Please email at rteodora@myrcs.ca or call the Elementary Office to sign up and become involved as a Parent Recess supervisor.

  2. School Photos – Wednesday, September 18th:

My mother didn’t get the memo when I was in grade 2. My bowl cut with alfalfa was forever immortalized. Comb that hair!

  3. Nova Foods:

There will be NO Nova Foods delivery on Oct 25th. Please adjust your plans accordingly.

    Thanks, awesome parents!
