Our first day, we were picked up from the airport, went for a late lunch of fried chicken and then were able to settle in to our lodgings for the night, a Baptist seminary called Seteca.
We rested for a bit, after having traveled through the night and then went for a tour of the downtown square in Guatemala City.
Sites:
- National Palace of the President, built in the 1930s by a Dictator President
- Elaborate Catholic Cathedral; Les gave us a tour to illustrate the differences between their faith (Catholic influenced by Polytheism and Anamism) and our Christian faith

the bus we are in seats 11 people, but thankfully it isn’t full. Our flight to Mexico was delayed an hour so we got there late, with a 3 hour layover and amother hour in the plane down to Guatemala everyone was tired. I had gotten maybe ten minutes of sleep last night and was expecting a 4 hour drive ahead. Thankfully we did not leave that afternoon for tactic, but spent the day in Guatemala City. We stopped at Pollo Campero for a small lunch/snack consisting of a semi-mushy chicken burger amd a plate of really good fries
back on the road, the bumpy pavement making it very difficult to write. We are spending the night at a seminary. Im so thankful for the drinkable water here, so tonight will be a little easier.
On the the road again, heading out to a park, just passed a graveyard, it was so big, people were selling flowers outside the walls. I couldn’t even see the end of it.
Spent a good chunck of time in a cathedral and now we are heading back to where we are sleeping. We just hit a really rough patch of road, almost like a speedbump every 6 inches.
Off to bed now, good night everyone! – Emma Schellenberg
